Trains France
Train Travel in France - TGV Trains are fast and efficient!
The SNCF is the national rail service in France and has pioneered one of the fastest, most efficient and comfortable high speed railway systems in the world. Together with the German ICE high speed trains the SNCF builds with its TGV (high speed train in France) the core hub of railway transport within Europe.
The TGV is the pride and joy of the French railway system. It's max speed lies by 300 kph and is therefore one of the three fastest trains in the world. Paris is the core hub for all travel destinations by the TGV. Lille to the north, Marseille and Nice to the south-east, Tours, Bordeaux and the frontier to the west.
Although
generally speaking the quickest and cheapest trip from the UK to
France is still by plane that does not necessarily apply anymore
for a trip from London to Paris. The Eurostar (the offspring of
the TGV) has become a serious competitor to all low cost airlines
on that particular route. Booking a minimum of two weeks in advance
a return trip via the Eurostar from London to Paris or Brussels
might cost you £100 return. Having said that it will be also
faster since the airport customs are usually slower and the transport
from and to the airport in Paris and London will take up to two
hours longer. The train stations in London and Paris however lie
in the center of the city and your trip to you hotel will be a lot
quicker. The Eurostar takes only from 2,5 to 3 hours pure travel
time.
